Our Law Firm is a tenant-focused law firm dedicated to fighting against unlawful housing conditions and landlord negligence. We advocate for tenants facing substandard living conditions, wrongful evictions, and other habitability violations under California and federal law. Our mission is to hold landlords accountable and secure safe, livable housing for all. We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Law and Motion Attorney to join our legal team. The ideal candidate has a strong background in legal research, writing, and motion practice, with experience drafting persuasive pleadings in complex tenant litigation. This role focuses on drafting and arguing motions to advance tenant rights cases and providing crucial litigation support to trial attorneys.
Key Responsibilities:
Research and draft high-quality legal briefs, including motions to dismiss, motions for summary judgment, oppositions, and appellate briefs.
Argue motions in court and support litigation strategies through written advocacy.
Analyze case law, statutes, and procedural rules to develop winning legal arguments.
Collaborate with trial attorneys to shape case strategies and legal theories.
Assist in preparing discovery responses, evidentiary motions, and trial briefs.
Stay informed on evolving landlord-tenant laws and contribute to legal training within the firm.
Qualifications:
J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in the California State Bar.
2+ years of experience in motion practice, legal research, and writing.
Strong written advocacy skills with the ability to draft clear and compelling legal arguments.
Knowledge of landlord-tenant law, civil procedure, and appellate practice preferred.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work independently.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience in public interest, tenant rights, or housing law.
Appellate litigation experience.
Fluency in Spanish or another language commonly spoken by tenants.
Can work remotely, but must be able to travel to LA Courthouses for necessary FSC + Trials only.
