SUMMARY
This position provides in-house legal support for EAA’s activities; serves as a trusted advisor to EAA’s business leaders and supports the legal department. The position reports directly to the General Counsel.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide legal support to all departments of the organization as needed and as assigned; maintain and follow the process for serving and supporting the legal needs of business managers.
Provide general legal advice and counsel on a variety of legal issues and effectively draft, negotiate, review and revise a wide range of agreements, including general commercial, vendor, technology, license, real estate, professional services and nondisclosure agreements.
Participate in assessment of tort liability related to EAA’s program and other activities; provide legal advice and support to the organization’s Risk Management Department.
Maintain competence in and monitor legal and regulatory compliance, such as not-for-profit corporation law, lobbying, Americans with Disabilities Act, state registration for charitable contributions, sweepstakes, raffles, alcohol beverages, and local ordinances, and assist the legal department in ensuring the organization is meeting all requirements.
Advise Foundation and Finance Department regarding trust and estate matters, planned to give and analysis of sales tax liability issues.
Assist with any projects involving the legal department as discussed with, and assigned by, General Counsel.
Ensure appropriate records and documentation are maintained to support EAA’s legal interests; assist in updating and monitoring the organization’s Records Retention and Disposal Policy.
Embrace and support the EAA mission and perform safe practices in the workplace and aviation environment.
All other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Broad legal background, with strengths and expertise in commercial and contract law matters, and ability to gain competence quickly in unfamiliar fields.
Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school
Successful completion of the Wisconsin State Bar exam, qualified for admission to State Bar of Wisconsin through reciprocity or eligible for admission to the Wisconsin State Bar
3+ years of commercial law experience, as in-house counsel or in a high-quality law firm
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
Ability to handle and manage multiple projects, to reprioritize and respond on a timely basis to urgent organization demands and to monitor results
Strong work ethic, including ability to work extended hours during required periods
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, including ability to translate legal issues into clear guidance for non-lawyers
Basic skills in Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel and Outlook
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Interest and involvement in aviation

Technical competence, and the ability to apply legal knowledge in a practical way to a wide variety of commercial situations
Ability to identify problematic concepts or structures and/or signs that a problem has developed or is developing

Ability to distinguish between business issues and legal issues, and work collaboratively with business managers to formulate appropriate solutions and approaches
Operate effectively in an environment with multiple, conflicting priorities
Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team or independently as needed
Willingness to learn new areas of law and take on additional responsibilities within the legal department as needed and assigned
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Typical office setting. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
Preparation for AirVenture or other events may require lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally, standing and walking for extended periods of time while bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting, and push and pull motions.
