What’s the role?

We are seeking a skilled, proactive, and experienced in-house employment lawyer to join our legal team. You will play a crucial role leading a variety of employment-related legal matters and ensuring our policies and practices are in line with current laws and regulations. You will provide expert legal counsel on all employment law matters, advising senior management, HR, and other departments on legal issues related to employee relations, compliance, disputes, and risk mitigation.

We’ll trust you to:

Employment Law Counseling: Provide day-to-day legal advice on a wide range of employment matters, including employee relations, investigations, performance management, reasonable accommodations, leave management, non-compete agreements, wage and hour issues, and other workplace policies.
Litigation Management: Manage employment-related litigation, including discrimination and harassment cases, wage and hour claims, and other legal actions. Oversee external counsel as needed.
Position Statements: Draft position statements in response to charges of discrimination filed with governmental agencies (e.g., the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), state human rights commissions, etc.), ensuring a thorough and timely response to all charges.
Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, regulations, and industry standards. Advise the organization on changes to laws and regulations impacting the workplace.
Policy Development & Review: Review, draft, and implement employment policies and procedures that promote a positive and compliant work environment.
Training & Education: Design and deliver training programs to employees and management on various employment law topics.
Risk Mitigation: Identify and assess potential legal risks related to employment practices and develop strategies to minimize risk and exposure.
Contract Review: Draft, review, and negotiate employment-related agreements, including offer letters and contracts, severance agreements, and other employment-related documents.
Employee Investigations: Conduct or oversee internal investigations related to workplace misconduct, discrimination, harassment, or other sensitive issues, ensuring that investigations are thorough and unbiased.

You’ll need to have:

Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
Licensed to practice law in New York and in good standing.
5+ years of experience practicing employment law, with a strong background in managing complex legal issues.
Solid knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including but not limited to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and state-specific employment laws.
Experience with both contentious and non-contentious employment matters, including litigation management and dispute resolution.
Proven ability to work cross-functionally with HR, senior management, and other stakeholders.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly and concisely.
Excellent judgment and decision-making skills, with the ability to navigate sensitive and confidential matters.
A proactive, self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Strong negotiation skills and the ability to handle complex legal matters diplomatically.

We’d love to see:

Experience in a large corporate environment.
Familiarity with global employment laws and cross-border legal matters.
Prior experience with labor relations or unionized environments.

Salary Range = 180000 – 200000 USD Annually + Benefits + Bonus

The referenced salary range is based on the Company’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level.
