Job Description Summary

Lewis University’s Department of Justice, Law and Public Safety Studies invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor and Program Director of the undergraduate Criminal Justice and Forensic Criminal Investigation programs. The successful candidate will provide academic leadership for both programs; teach across the undergraduate curriculum; maintain an active research and scholarship agenda; advise and mentor students; and collaborate with faculty and University partners to support curriculum development, assessment, student success, recruitment, and program growth. Teaching assignments may include Research Methods, Introduction to Criminal Justice, Criminology, Introduction to Law Enforcement, Juvenile Justice, Criminalistics, and other courses aligned with the candidate’s expertise and departmental needs.

Responsibilities

Responsible to model the University Mission through dedicated job performance, service excellence to constituencies, respectful collaboration and active support of the University’s Mission and Catholic and Lasallian higher education.

Faculty responsibilities include:

  • Teach 9 credit hours per semester, through a variety of modalities, including face to face, hybrid and online
  • Academic Advising
  • Committee assignments
  • Collaboration with colleagues in ongoing student learning outcomes
  • General support of departmental initiatives
  • Active support of the University’s Mission
  • Availability to maintain a flexible schedule to teach during day and evening hours, attend departmental meetings

Program Director responsibilities include:

  • Designs and revises program curriculum with the faculty
  • Recruits and trains adjunct faculty
  • Participates in program recruitment and marketing activities
  • Represents the program in College and University matters
  • Participates in promotion, recruitment, and marketing efforts
  • Coordinates community and organizational partnerships, including community college 3+1 partnership programs
  • Coordinates advising of students in the program
  • Coordinates assessment of program Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs), and

subsequent action planning

  • Ensures the academic course catalog is kept current with updates to program

curriculum and/or policies

  • Creates the course schedule for the program, including course rotations and

faculty assignments

  • Responds to student concerns and issues

Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Earned doctorate in Criminal Justice or closely related field or relevant combination of education and professional experience.

  • 3 years of teaching in higher education
  • 3 years of experience in a criminal justice-related field
  • Established research and scholarship agenda
  • Higher education leadership experience, or leadership experience in a criminal justice-related discipline

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience in a criminal justice-related field
  • Higher education leadership experience
  • M.S. or M.A. in Forensic Science and/or Forensic Laboratory experience
  • Record of scholarly publication
  • Bilingual preferred
