A real estate manager in Massachusetts that currently manages over $3 billion worth of real estate investments is looking to add an Assistant General Counsel who will report directly to the General Counsel and who will manage the real estate legal function for the company nationwide.
The ideal candidate should be able to work independently, be a team player, and able to perform in a fast-paced environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Assist in drafting legal documentation, including purchase and sale agreements, commercial leases, loan documentation, and other corporate documents.
· Serve as a lead in-house lawyer managing outside real estate counsel.
· Lead negotiations and finalization of purchase and sale agreements.
· Manage title and survey review processes, resolving any issues efficiently.
· Conduct thorough legal due diligence, identifying potential risks and recommending mitigation strategies.
· Review, draft, and negotiate leases aligned with company objectives.
· Handle review and negotiation of loan documents, coordinating with lenders and internal teams.
· Draft, negotiate, and manage Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs).
· Provide strategic legal advice on corporate and real estate matters, ensuring compliance.
· Collaborate closely with acquisitions, finance, operations, and property management teams.
· Stay informed of industry standards, legal updates, and regulatory requirements affecting real estate transactions.
· Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
· A JD or LLM from an ABA-accredited law school.
· 3-7 years’ experience working with a top real estate group and/or top law firm in the U.S., preferably in Massachusetts.
· Barred in Massachusetts, eligible to waive in on motion to the Massachusetts bar, or eligible to register under “in-house counsel status” in Massachusetts.
· U.S. work authorization.
· Practical knowledge of Excel, Word, Adobe and PowerPoint.
· Willingness to work in-office 4 days per week (Monday through Thursday).
COMPENSATION
Salary is competitive with market pay. Compensation may vary depending on factors including but not limited to achievements, skills and experience. This position may also be eligible for an annual bonus. Full benefits are also provided (medical, dental, vision, 401k).
