Assistant Federal Public Defender
The Federal Public Defender for the Western District of Michigan is accepting applications for an Assistant Federal Public Defender. The Federal Public Defender operates under the authority of the Criminal Justice Act, 18 U.S.C. § 3006(A), and provides criminal defense services to people charged with federal crimes who cannot afford to hire a lawyer.
Assistant Federal Public Defenders provide every aspect of representation to individuals charged with federal crimes including trials and related hearings, direct appeals, post-conviction and habeas relief, witness representation, supervised release violations and other matters.
Minimum Requirements:
Graduates of an accredited law school.
Admitted and in good standing with a state bar or eligible for admission.
Eligible for admission to the Western District of Michigan.
Aptitude for trial practice and superior analytical ability.
At least two years of trial experience.
Excellent interpersonal skills, good judgment, and the ability to prioritize and work both independently and cooperatively.
Commitment to the indigent and personal integrity.
Salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience. The starting salary range is $72,553 to $170,236. The position includes Federal benefits. Employment is  FBI background check is required.
