Nurse Paralegal | Health Law Practice Group:

Under attorney supervision, the nurse paralegal performs a variety of functions primarily in the Health Law Practice Group. Identifies medical issues in records; obtains, organizes, and manages voluminous in-patient and out-patient charts; identifies and interviews expert witnesses; arranges for expert review of charts; obtains expert opinions; prepares subpoenas and related documents to obtain records, and keeps track of/shares medical records, depositions, and pleadings with experts and treating health care provider defendants.

Key Roles & Responsibilities::
Organize in-patient and out-patient medical charts;
Review medical records to identify missing records and other providers who cared for the patient;
Prepare chronologies summarizing medical records;
Prepare subpoenas and related documents necessary to obtain medical records;
Maintain expert tracking sheets showing what records have been obtained from which sources and what follow up was or needs to be performed;
Maintain subpoena charts showing what medical records were obtained, from what source, and what records remain to be obtained;
Prepare packages of records for expert witness review;
Identify and interview potential expert witnesses;
Arrange for and attend attorney conferences with experts;
Help get all necessary records, pleadings, and depositions to treating health care providers and experts.

Minimum Education/Certification:
BA/BS degree in a related legal field of study is required; RN degree is required; a Paralegal certificate is preferred.

Minimum Experience:
A minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of experience in medical malpractice litigation preferred. Prior experience billing time is also preferred.

Special Skills and Knowledge:
The ideal candidate will be amenable to learning new or unfamiliar tasks as a given case or situation dictates. Time management skills and efficiency must be excellent. This position requires the candidate to manage assignments in multiple cases, prioritize work based on case deadlines, and seek attorney clarification when necessary. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills are required to interact with staff and attorneys on a daily basis. Must have meticulous attention to detail and the ability to prioritize work effectively in order to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and initiatives simultaneously. Strong organizational, problem solving, and listening skills are required. Intermediate to advanced level skills using Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, and legal software is essential. Must be flexible for the potential need for travel and overtime.

Salary Range:
$85,000 – $95,000 based on experience and credentials, however, the higher end of the salary range is reserved for exceptional circumstances.
