The Indian Child Welfare Act Law Center (ICWA Law Center) is seeking a Staff Attorney.
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: approximately $50,000 + per year (depending on qualifications)
The Staff Attorney will provide legal representation to individuals impacted by the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) in child protection proceedings in Hennepin County, other counties throughout the state, and tribal courts within Minnesota.
The staff attorney will work closely with paralegals, advocates, and parent mentors to provide holistic legal representation to clients.
The ICWA Law Center is a non-profit legal services organization committed to strengthening, preserving, and reuniting American Indian families consistent with the mandates and spirit of the Indian Child Welfare Act.
The ICWA Law Center is a recognized leader in Minnesota focused on providing the highest quality of legal services for American Indian families. Collaborating with tribes, community service providers, and child protection professionals, the ICWA Law Center represents the unique perspective(s) of American Indian families impacted by the child welfare system in hopes of creating effective responses within a system that recognizes the fundamental values of familial and tribal connections consistent with the spirit and intent of ICWA.
Desired Qualifications: Active (or soon to be active) attorney licensed in Minnesota.
The ideal candidate will possess superior interpersonal skills, an ability to maintain collaborative working relationships with all stakeholders; including county, tribal, and community professionals. The ability to work with a diverse population affected by historical trauma, chemical dependency, domestic violence, and/or poverty is a must.
