Position Description
Under the general direction of the Chief Counsel and the Deputy Chief Counsel, the Assistant Chief Counsel supervises the work of attorneys and carries a caseload of the most sensitive and complex legal work, including cases of the highest difficulty.
Additional Information
The California Civil Rights Department (CRD) enforces the state’s civil rights laws, including the Fair Employment and Housing Act, the Unruh Civil Rights Act, the Disabled Persons Act, the Ralph Civil Rights Act, and the Trafficking Victims Protection Act.
CRD has jurisdiction over complaints against public and private entities operating in California. It has offices in six locations throughout California and handles investigations, legal guidance, and litigation of discrimination cases. The Legal Division employs approximately seventy attorneys and staff.
Candidates outside California may be interviewed, but must provide proof of residence in California before employment becomes effective.
