What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
Provide legal counsel and representation to the Legislature, Governor, state agencies, and District Attorneys
Enforce state environmental laws by prosecuting violations referred by regulatory agencies
Defend the state and state agencies in environmental-related lawsuits
Represent the state’s interests in federal environmental cases as authorized
Prepare and draft legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and briefs
What is Required (Qualifications):
Must be a member in good standing with the Wisconsin State Bar upon appointment
Professional experience in preparing and drafting pleadings, motions, and briefs
Experience participating in discovery and planning litigation strategy
Proven ability to handle motion hearings or other court proceedings
Experience negotiating with opposing counsel
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
Litigation experience involving environmental or conservation law issues
Experience with federal or state administrative review processes
Serving as lead counsel in legal matters
Undergraduate or graduate degree(s) in environmental, conservation, or related science or engineering fields
