Essential Job Functions:
This position is responsible for specialized entry-level clerical work in the District Court. It requires that all essential duties assigned be performed in an accurate and prompt manner. Upon completion of orientation and initial training, the incumbent will perform specific and measurable tasks under moderate supervision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Serve as cashier and/or backup cashier. Ring in all payments from court. Ring in payments received for forms and paperwork via mail or in person. Ring in all rents and warrants received for this District (Towson). Close out the register and tills.
Assist customers in person and on the phone. Answer procedural questions regarding criminal, traffic, civil, rents, and domestic violence cases.
Accept filings in File and Serve, the electronic database through which attorneys and parties in cases file pleadings. Filings must be reviewed and accepted or rejected. Task filings to the appropriate queues.
Open incoming US mail, scan through system, and task to appropriate section.
Assist in other departments or fill in at other court locations in the district as needed.
All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma (or GED equivalent).
Experience:
One (1) year of work experience, preferably in court operations or in the fields of criminal justice, parole and probation, legal or financial services.
Note:
A Bachelor?s Degree may substitute the required work experience.
A Paralegal/Associates Degree or 60 college credits may substitute the required work experience.
A Paralegal Certificate may substitute the required work experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment
Knowledge of alpha and numerical filing system
Knowledge of basic legal terminology and able to communicate effectively using such with court personnel and ancillary agencies.
Knowledge of standard legal forms and documents used in the Maryland District Courts.
Skill in customer service and handling problems tactfully and patiently.
Skill in accuracy and attention to detail.
Ability to operate a personal computer.
Ability to communicate effectively with the public and provide information in a polite and efficient manner both in person and on the phone.
Ability to maintain and use a detailed filing system.
Ability to verify scanned documents from other co-workers.
Ability to exercise tact and understanding in pressured situations.
Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to make decisions independently while complying with the MD Rules, as well as the rules and procedures established by the District Court of MD.
Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and work well with others.
Ability to adapt to change and responsibilities.
Physical Requirements:
Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.

Fax machine, computer equipment, telephone, copier, scanner.
Software and Computer Skills:
Microsoft Suites, Odyssey, personal computer knowledge
