The Role
You’re a key operator behind our client’s owned engagement surfaces — the person who actually
pushes the alert, swaps the banner, and refreshes the homepage. Working under newsroom
leadership, you keep our most visible touchpoints timely, accurate, and on-brand when the
news doesn’t wait. This is an execution-focused role for someone with sharp editorial instincts
who’s fast, reliable, and calm under a breaking-news clock.
What You’ll Own (hands-on)
– Push alerts — write and send breaking-news and editorial push notifications to
standard: right story, right moment, right audience, without over-firing
– App banners — build, schedule, and update in-app banners and promo slots
– Homepage — curate and merchandise the homepage and key landing surfaces,
keeping placement fresh as stories develop
– Modules & curation surfaces — manage on-site and in-app content modules
The Day to Day
– Design and execute compelling content experiences by leveraging strategic
messaging, cohesive module branding, and data-driven timing.
– Provide feedback to the newsroom about what’s trending and how to shift coverage.
– Test and adjust headlines, packaging, and placement to grow engagement.
What You Bring
– 5+ years in a digital newsroom, audience/engagement, or social/curation role
– Comfort with making fast editorial calls on live surfaces and owning the send button
– Familiarity with CMS, push, and curation tools; you’re a quick study with both
proprietary and third-party platforms
– You can hop between multiple systems and understand how configurations appear
on the front end
– Solid editorial instincts: you know a strong story and a strong headline. And your
writing and editing skills are impeccable.
– You’re reliable and self-directed; you can be trusted to run owned surfaces solo
– Genuine availability to work weekends and occasional odd hours, including around
breaking weather and news events
The hourly pay range for this position (dependent on factors including but not limited to client requirements, experience, statutory considerations, and location) is $25.00 to $35.00/hr. Benefits available to full-time employees: medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401k and commuter benefits.
