Why does the job exist?

The Legal Support Worker – Supervisor will:
Uphold the rights of individuals, families, and guardians to a fair hearing, in full compliance with state (NMAC) and federal (CFR) regulations.

How does it get done?

The Legal Support Worker – Supervisor is responsible for:
Supporting the Bureau of Individual Safety and Advocacy within the Developmental Disabilities Supports Division (DDSD)

Upholding federal regulations (42 CFR 431.205-245), which guarantee individuals the right to a fair hearing if their claim for assistance is denied or delayed.

Managing, communicating, and organizing the office and the team;

Collecting and disseminating evidence, responding to stakeholders, and attending conferences and hearings.

Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities;

Guardians throughout New Mexico.

Minimum Qualification

High School diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of work experience drafting and preparing legal correspondence, conducting basic legal research, and maintaining a case management/tracking system. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver’s License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course Certificate as a condition of continued employment within 45 days of employment. Travel may be required with some occasional overnight stays. Successful completion of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Working Conditions

Office setting with extensive use of personal computer, telephone, fax, copier and other related office equipment that involves sitting, standing, bending, reaching, etc. to include lifting up to 30 pounds.
