This course is designed to respond to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Call to Action #28. It aims to introduce the history and legacy of residential schools, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, treaties and Aboriginal rights, Aboriginal law, Indigenous law, and Indigenous-Crown relations. It also aims to foster the development of intercultural competencies through skills-based training, dispute resolution, human rights, and anti-racism.

Requirements:
The Common Law Section is seeking candidates who are leaders in the legal profession. An LL.B., J.D., or equivalent is required for this position. Membership in the Law Society of Ontario (or equivalent) in good standing is also required. The successful candidate will have significant knowledge of pertinent aspects of Indigenous Law, Aboriginal Law, UNDRIP, and Call to Action 28 of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
Experience teaching intercultural competencies through skills-based training, dispute resolution, human rights, and anti-racism will be an asset. Prior teaching experience will be considered an asset.
The Common Law Section reserves the right to select a candidate who does not fully meet each of these requirements, where the candidate’s selection would be beneficial to the program, the course, the students or for a related reason.

The candidate may be required to teach this course either online, in-person or hybrid mode at the discretion of the Faculty and in accordance with public health guidelines.
An acceptable level of education and/or experience could be viewed as being equivalent to the educational required and/or demonstrated experience.
