AFFIRMATIVE ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY (TEMPE OFFICE)
Position Overview:
Green Evans-Schroeder is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Affirmative Associate Attorney to join our immigration law practice in the Tempe office. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with an experienced legal team on meaningful family-based, humanitarian, and employment-based immigration matters while developing strong advocacy, counseling, and case strategy skills in a supportive, professional environment.

Although prior affirmative immigration experience is important, we provide substantial guidance, supervision, mentoring, and training to help the successful candidate learn our systems, procedures, and approach to excellent client representation.
MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Case Management
The associate attorney will work closely with supervising partners, senior attorneys, paralegals, and legal assistants to prepare, manage, and advance affirmative immigration matters.
- Prepare and file comprehensive affirmative immigration applications, including family-based petitions, adjustment of status applications, consular processing matters, humanitarian applications, citizenship cases, and related affirmative immigration filings with USCIS and the Department of State.
- Conduct thorough client consultations and intake interviews.
- Maintain effective, respectful communication with clients, court staff, and government agencies throughout the life of each case.
- Draft, review, and refine legal documents, attorney cover letters, declarations, legal arguments, exhibits, and application packages in a clear, organized, and persuasive format.
- Represent clients during USCIS interviews and administrative proceedings, including preparing clients in advance of interviews and proceedings.
- Maintain organized electronic and paper files to safeguard client property and support ethical, efficient case management.
- Conduct in-depth legal research on complex immigration law issues.
- Ensure compliance with immigration regulations, ethical obligations, and the firm’s professional standards.
- Collaborate proactively with paralegals, legal assistants, and other attorneys to promote efficient case progression, clear communication, careful work product, and timely completion of case tasks.
Training and Professional Development
- Work closely with supervising partners and senior attorneys to develop case strategies, strengthen legal analysis, and receive meaningful feedback on work product.
- Participate in ongoing training, internal mentorship, case review discussions, and continuing legal education designed to support professional growth and excellent client representation.
- Remain current on evolving immigration laws, procedures, and policy changes.
- Contribute to the firm’s shared knowledge base, best practices, and culture of thoughtful teamwork, accountability, and high-quality legal work.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
- Active bar membership in good standing
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated commitment to serving diverse client populations
- Language: Proficiency in spoken and written Spanish is required.
- Computer Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, legal research tools, case management software, document preparation and maintenance, and immigration-related online forms.
- Research Skills: Ability to research immigration law and procedure, analyze complex issues, and apply legal authority to case strategy and problem-solving.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to manage a high volume of diverse family-based and humanitarian immigration matters while maintaining effective systems to meet professional, ethical, and case-related obligations.
Preferred
- Two or more years of affirmative immigration experience, particularly with family-based, humanitarian, consular processing, or employment-based matters
- Experience with hourly billing
