Desai Law APC is a boutique law firm based in Los Angeles, California, looking to open our first branch office in New York City! Our firm focuses on providing tailored legal services on Workers’ Compensation cases. Summary:
The part-time Paralegal will support the Managing Attorney in all aspects of legal work, including research, drafting documents, and managing case files. This role is critical in ensuring the efficient handling of legal matters and providing high-quality support to clients and the legal team. The ideal candidate will possess strong research and organizational skills, a solid understanding of legal procedures, and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Compensation:
$26.00 – $28.00 plus the opportunity for discretionary bonuses
Final compensation will be dependent on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct thorough legal research and gather relevant case information, statutes, and precedents to assist with case preparation and strategy.
Draft, dictate, review, and prepare legal documents including pleadings, settlements, briefs, motions, and correspondence for assigned attorneys. Ensure all documents are accurate and comply with legal standards.
Organize and maintain case files, including tracking deadlines, scheduling appointments, assessing settlement potential, and managing discovery processes. Collaborate with other members of the Firm to support clients effectively. Fulfill minimum billable hours each month.
Communicate with clients, witnesses, and experts to gather information, schedule meetings, and provide updates on case progress. Alleviate attorney interactions by providing timely updates to clients.
Prepare and file legal documents with courts and other agencies. Ensure timely and accurate submission of filings.
Assist attorneys in preparing for trials, hearings, and depositions, including organizing exhibits and preparing witness outlines.
Perform administrative duties such as managing calendars, coordinating meetings, and handling correspondence.
Ensure that all work adheres to legal and ethical standards, including maintaining confidentiality and managing sensitive information.
Qualifications:
Associate’s degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or a related field. Bachelor’s degree or completion of a paralegal certification program is preferred.
Minimum of 2 years of experience as a paralegal or legal assistant in a law firm or legal department.
Strong research and analytical skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal research
Ability to draft and review legal documents with accuracy and attention to detail.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
Familiarity with legal terminology, procedures, and documentation. Knowledge of legal research methods and case management software is advantageous.
Strong understanding of New York appeals board documentation and e-filings.
Requirements:
Must have a keen eye for detail and be able to review and manage complex documents and case files accurately.
Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality at all times.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with clients, attorneys, and other staff members.
Ability to anticipate issues and proactively address challenges that may arise during case preparation and management.
Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and workload demands in a fast-paced legal environment.
