Little has captured the public’s attention more in the last few years than our criminal justice system. The Jefferson County Attorney’s Office is seeking justice-driven individuals who want to make an impact within that system. An attorney working in the General Criminal Division of the office would work in a fast-paced and exciting environment with the ability to get courtroom experience early in their career. Duties will include conducting interviews of officers, victims, and witnesses; evaluating evidence; reviewing relevant case law; conducting motion practice and negotiating appropriate dispositions of charges by acting as a minister of justice. As a prosecutor, they would have the opportunity to handle a variety of cases in Jefferson District Court from Disorderly Conduct to Murder probable cause hearings. On-the-job training in the courts, along with additional training and exercises outside of court, will prepare the successful candidate to conduct hearings, including arraignment, bond reduction, probable cause, and contempt, as well as jury and bench trials. In addition, the office sponsors opportunities for individuals to participate in national conferences and membership in law affinity groups.
